Events
Urban Roots has several events throughout the year which connect the community to our farm and youth, educate about sustainable agriculture and healthy diets, and celebrate local food in Austin.

Community Lunches
Each summer, Urban Roots hosts a series of Community Lunches on our farm, featuring farm produce prepared and served by youth Interns in partnership with a local chef! Community members are invited to the farm to partake in the delicious meal as they listen to youth speakers talk about the Urban Roots program. Our 2011 partner chefs included Rene Ortiz from La Condesa, Jack Gilmore from Jack & Allen’s Kitchen, and Terry Wilson from Aquarelle.
Check back soon for the 2012 Community Lunch schedule and how to RSVP to attend!
Edible Austin Eat Drink Local Week
Eat Drink Local Week, sponsored and organized by Edible Austin magazine, is an invitation to Central Texans to explore and celebrate the abundance of local food and to raise money for Urban Roots and the Sustainable Food Center. The week features 60 local restaurants and a variety of exciting events, all focused on promoting local food, drink, growers, and vendors.
Eat Drink Local Week takes place the first week of December each year.
Fall Harvest Festival, presented by Whole Foods Market and Greenling
In the fall of 2011, Whole Foods Market sponsored and hosted the first annual Fall Harvest Festival on their roof-top plaza down town. This unique event featured a tasting of fall flavors, Urban Roots youth speakers, carnival games for the kids, live music by the Lost Pines, a silent auction, a raffle, and more. Check back in the summer for more details on Fall Harvest Festival 2012, scheduled for October!
Music by the Slice
Music by the Slice (MXTS) is Home Slice Pizza’s rockin’ SXSW party, benefiting Urban Roots! During MXTS, your can listen to great bands while you eat some of Austin’s finest pizza. It’s free to get in and all proceeds from their outside bars benefit Urban Roots.
