Soon to come: The Urban Roots Farm-Mobile!

Urban Roots is excited to announce that Chipotle Mexican Grill is sponsoring our Farm-Mobile Outreach Program! On Wednesday, July 25, profits from sales at all Austin Chipotles will benefit Urban Roots up to $25,000. We hope you will join us on Wednesday for a burrito at your favorite Chipotle to celebrate!

Urban Roots is impressed by Chipotle’s commitment to using sustainably grown and organic food, raised by small local farmers. Check out a few facts that the Chipotle team shared with us:

  • Chipotle’s long grain white rice is grown domestically.
  • In 2011, Chipotle sourced over 3.5 million pounds (98% of all cilantro purchased) of organically ground cilantro.
  • Chipotle serves naturally-raised chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, and steak.
  • Locally, the Downtown Austin Chipotle on Congress buys pork from Richardson Farms (a local Austin family farm).

The Urban Roots Farm-Mobile was generously donated to Urban Roots in 2010. Now, with Chipotle’s sponsorship, Urban Roots will be able to wrap the truck and use it for outreach presentations in the community, farmers markets, and more. From the Farm-Mobile, youth Interns will be able to conduct educational games and demonstrations on food and gardening, including Veggies Make You Strong!, our veggie nutrition game-show.
